Drug Treatment Courts are defined under Michigan Compiled Law 600.1060(c). These courts are defined as "a court-supervised treatment program for individuals who abuse or are dependent upon any controlled substance or alcohol." These treatment court offer an alternative to imprisonment for nonviolent criminal offenders with substance use disorders.
Drug court have grown overtime and now include different models to serve specific subsets of offenders. They all share the same therapeutic jurisprudence model, but they each have their own program- specific components to meet the need of its participants
